Assessments

Post-Enrollment Assessment*:

Have you been wondering whether to take your child out of the French Immersion program? Have you been thinking about switching them to a Francophone school board or private French language school? If you answered yes to either question, this in-person service is for you, as we will help you navigate the French as a Second Language (FSL) curriculum in Ontario.

Our FSL Consultant, who is a former French Teacher, will:

  • assess your child based on the grammatical concepts outlined in the FSL curriculum for their current grade,

  • do so by conducting a listening, speaking, reading, and writing test in the comfort of your home,

  • give you the results for each test and provide a rubric that highlights the results,

  • discuss their results with you during a 30-minute post-discussion, and

  • recommend whether your child should remain in the program and provide possible next steps.

NOTE: We support the Durham, Halton, Peel, Toronto, and York Regions in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

If you reside outside of our service area and would like an assessment for your child, kindly email us at support@fairesens.ca

How much will it cost?

Grades 1 to 8 = $300

  • However, if you reside in the Durham or Halton region, there is an additional $50 travel surcharge.

  • Finally, if you would like a written report, in addition to the provided test results and rubric, the cost is $100.

*For this service, it is encouraged that you provide a copy of your child’s most recent report card prior to the appointment in addition to their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Safety Plan, if applicable, to ensure the best service outcome possible. However, this is on a voluntary basis.

**Every English speaking public school board, Catholic school board, and private school offer different FSL programs, so please keep this in mind where next steps are concerned.

***If your child has an accommodation in place, as indicated on their Individual Education Plan (IEP), please note that each test must be conducted using the "time and a half" model as required.

****Will wear a mask upon request.

What Our Customers Are Saying:

"I can't recommend Shana's services enough. My son hated French last year and as a result missed more school days than I would have liked. The avoidance of French led to a few behavioral issues. Shana's assessment showed that he was completely behind in French by 3 yrs. The school system had just been passing him. His speaking, listening, and writing all needed significant remediation. Shana cane to our house for the assessment and this allowed my son to be tested in a familiar environment. Now I have a game plan to get him the help that he needs and I can advocate for him so that he starts to enjoy school again. No more tears, tummy aches or arguments on French days. Thanks Shana for all your help and assistance." - Dr. Ibby (Halton District School Board [HDSB])

"I reached out to Shana for a post enrollment assessment for my daughter who was currently in grade 2 French immersion. I was already contemplating withdrawing her from the program as she was having some difficulty and wanted additional information to support my decision. The assessment was very thorough and gave great insight to where my daughter was at. Shana's feedback and recommendations helped to make my decision easier. Would definitely recommend her services." - Carla (Toronto District School Board [TDSB])

"Great experience. Very thorough and answered all of our questions. A very important and useful resource!" - Jaime (Halton District School Board [HDSB])

"What a unique and much needed service! Through Shana's assessment we were able to understand how our son was doing with the french language in isolation from any other issues that may be taking place in the classroom setting. This service helped us understand his french skill and allowed us to focus more specifically on where he needs the most help. Shana was very quick to respond and was able to see us within days of reaching out." - Christine (York Region District School Board [YRDSB])

"We contacted Faire Sens for an assessment of our daughter's French language level following several years at a French Immersion private school. Being a non-Francophone parent, it is difficult for me to assess my daughter's French level and Faire Sens was the answer. Shana was responsive, professional, a strong communicator, and all-round French language expert. Shana was great with our 8-year old and very thorough with her assessment and recommendations, taking time to answer all my questions, provide additional information and a report. This was such a positive experience! If you or anyone you know is looking for a comprehensive professional French level assessment for school or work, I would highly recommend Faire Sens." - May-Sann (Private School)

"It was such a pleasure meeting Shana and having her do an assessment on my son. She was such a delight to work with. My son is in grade 4 French Immersion and I felt like we were at a crossroad on whether to stay in FI or move him to back to regular English stream classes. Shana was able to guide me in the right direction with all of her knowledge and experience in the school boards." - Susan (Toronto District School Board [TDSB])

"Thank you again for your assessment, I really felt like you weren't trying to persuade me in any direction and gave me direct feedback - which is what I needed to hear. We definitely have some considerations to make about what the long term commitment looks like, but she certainly has an eagerness to learn the language."  -Chantelle (York Catholic District School Board [YCDSB])

"French is a skill, not a specialization." - Shana Baptiste-Iseyemi
